If you're reading this then that means that you've found my new book blog.
Can you believe that it has been 6 years since they announced they were making 13 reasons why a movie?! If you don't believe me check out this screenshot from my blog Gabby Reads/ YA Pixie or whatever name it was at the time. I have changed blog names so many times trying to find one that I liked enough to keep.
It seems like forever ago that I read this book. It had such a powerful message and I remember sitting in a puddle of tears by the end of it. As I sat down yesterday to binge watch the show, I couldn't really remember much of the original story because it had been so long since I've read it, but I knew it would be great from the very first episode. After I finished, I of course had to back track and read the story. For many I am always scared of watching a book adaptation because they never get it quite right. Well they definitely did get this right, and this is 13 reasons why you should watch 13 reasons why (EVEN if you've read the book)! I know such a creative pun, right? Haha Anyways, Let's dive in!
#1 Perfect Cast
#2 Diversity
They really switched roles up and included such a diverse bunch of characters. The writers included two gay characters along which characters of many diversities to shed light on different situations!
So much of the original story has been adapted to fit the struggles teens face now and they hit it right on the nail with this one.
Watching this is honestly so emotional because you are bound to connect with at least one character!

#4 Clay and Hannah <3
In my opinion, Clay and Hannah were always
Perfect for each other and it breaks my heart
that they never figured it out. They have such
a different relationship in the books and it's
amazing and gut wrenching at the same time because they will never get there happy ending, but it is super nice and different to see them be friends and it's not just clay pining after her the whole story line. Plus, they make pet names for each other :'(
#5 Added Drama
Because it wouldn't be a show without a different twist of drama right Shadow Hunter creators? But unlike Shadow Hunters, It's done right and has added another layer to the show by showing that there are things the parents can do as well.
#6 CLAY
Clay is such a sweet heart and it's so weird to see him go from being such a normal kid in the book to the awkward kid that whats to take charge and actually does something. Another great/kind of annoying thing about the show is that Clay listens to the tapes very slowly and I mean very slowly. In the book he binge watches them and I feel like dragging it out, as annoying as it can be gives the show a reasonable timeline. Also leaving the added effect of how impactful a suicide note can be.
#7 Modern Adaptation
The original story line didn't included modern technology like group texting and social media which makes keeping secrets that much harder! I love that the writers adapted to modern technology to also capture the struggles of living in a social media world.
#8 Multiple Points of View
The fact that there are multiple points of views, makes the
show 10x better with characters being very dimensional. You get to actually see
how people are thinking and not just what you hear from the tapes or clays
point of view. You get to chose and make your own decision, which is fun.
#9 It's gritty and REAL
#10 Suspense
This show leaves in you suspense at the end of each episode. I binged watched it in one sitting. I tried to go to sleep, but as soon as I heard this tape is for you clay, It was end game. I had to know what he did and how he was responsible because I honestly couldn't remember.
#11 Added Plot Twist
With added drama comes with the added plot twist and I can not be any happier with the added twist and ending. Once Clay hands over the tapes to the next person in the book, we never know what happens. WELL now we know and Hannah's parents might get what they've been hoping for.
#12 CLIFF HANGER
And the most important reason...
#13 The Powerful Message
This does happen in real life and that's what should hit close to home in everyones hearts. It's so common in today's society and everyone should watch this show to get a better understanding of why these things happen and the problems teenagers face today. I will say I graduated high school not too long ago and while I never experienced anything major like in this show, I know people who did. I saw their struggles and this show definitely does capture the message very well. Like Hannah Baker said she needed someone not to leave and It is a message that needs to be heard. So please watch and remember to be good to everybody <3
